Fedmet supplies wellblocks in a number of
different compositions to best suit the operating conditions of
the steel ladle. Wellblocks are available in basic and alumina
qualities to match the slag basicity. Blocks are either pressed
or pre-cast depending on the composition. These shapes can be
pre-fired if necessary to ensure optimum performance. These
pieces are custom-designed for a specific ladle with attention
to total life, free open performance and cost.

Fedmet supplies nozzles in a number of
different compositions to best suit the operating conditions of
the steel ladle. Nozzles are available in alumina qualities
(with and without carbon additions, zirconia additions, and/or
chrome additions) to best resist the slag chemistry. Nozzles are
either pressed or pre-cast depending on the composition. These
shapes can be pre-fired if necessary to ensure optimum
performance. These pieces are custom-designed for a specific
ladle with attention to total life, free open performance and

Fedmet’s slide gate plate brick are
available in a number of different chemistries and bond systems
to best match the grades of steel and chemistries of the slag.
All of the plate brick are machined to exacting tolerances, in
some cases better than OEM specifications. Fedmet personnel look
forward to working with the end user with the goals of lower
cost, higher performance and greater reliability. Combined with
the metallic equipment mentioned above, Fedmet can do the
engineering and service a conversion to a more modern system.

Fedmet offers ladle shrouds in both
alumina-graphite and fused silica qualities. The
alumina-graphite shrouds are isostatically pressed with zirconia
wear bands and argon channels as necessary for the particular
casting and cleanliness requirements of a shop. All AG shrouds
are X-rayed for flaws and imperfections prior to shipment. The
fused silica shrouds are designed primarily for cost savings.
They are intended to supplement AG shrouds for shorter casting
sequences, or as a cheaper alternative to AG for shops that run
non-aggressive tundish practices.

Fedmet’s stopper rods are made from
alumina-carbon in isostatic presses with zirconia inserts and/or
magnesia tips as necessary for optimum performance. Argon
channels are likewise available to suit a particular operation.
Stopper rods are all X-rayed before shipment to eliminate flaws
and cracks. Stopper rods can be supplied bare or with mounting
hardware as required.

Fedmet’s tundish nozzles are primarily
zirconia, but cheaper ones can be made in pre-cast spinel shapes
or pressed alumina as needed to provide lowest cost at desired
performance levels. Pressed zirconia nozzles are available in
different purities with and without flutes. Pressed nozzles
deliver minimal bore variation and optimal density for long life
and the least wear.

Fedmet’s SENs are isostatically pressed
from alumina-graphite with zirconia inserts and magnesia seats
as required. Argon channels are available too. These pieces are
100% X-ray tested for flaws and cracks prior to shipment. These
SENs are engineered to provide maximum life at minimal cost.
